Overview
The Certificate Authentication Code (CAC) is an item of information that is to be included on all new editions of Certificates of Title (CTs) printed at the NSW Land and Property Information (LPI) Division from January 2004. A CAC is a randomly generated number that acts as a unique document identifier used in order to deter and prevent fraud. It is verifiable online through the CITEC Confirm Certificate Authentication Code (CAC) Inquiry.
From 11th October 2021, this search is no longer valid for a Certificate of Title. It is only relevant if searching for a Water Access License (WAL).
Who Is It For?
Title tracking is available for anybody conducting land investigations and/or conveyancing.
What Do You Get Out Of It?
The CAC inquiry will determine whether the CT is likely to be genuine by verifying the authenticity. The search will return a number of potential results:
- CAC NUMBER AUTHENTICATED OK
- Confirms that the CAC code entered for that particular Title Reference was matched successfully with the CT details provided.
- The information entered does not match the details held for this Title Reference.
- CT details OK, but CAC does not match.
- Daily CAC check limit exceeded
Verification requests against the same Title Reference will be limited to a maximum of 10 per day in order to prevent hacking attacks to determine the CAC for a particular Title.
The Application Process
The application process consists of entering a number of details including the Title Reference, edition number, issue date, first owner name and CAC code. Ensure that these details are entered as they appear on the printed CT. Results are usually delivered instantly.
